| Altec-Lansing Speakers and Subwoofer not working on new Dell with WIN7 I have an Altec-Lansing speakers ACS40 and subwoofer ACS250 system that came with a Gateway 2000 PC that I purchased in 1995. Nov 15, 2018 Coil whine is a high-pitched sound some devices inside the computer case can create under certain situations. This hiss or squeal resembles a dull, boiling teapot sound, only usually much quieter. These coils in your computer have an electrical current passing through them, one. But connected to either audio out on the PC (motherboard or PCI audio card) or my phone, produces the high pitched noise when turned more than halfway up. Naturally, I can move the output slider on my software volume control from 50% all the way up to 100% so that the line-out is as loud as it can be, but this means that when I turn the amp all.
